  • ThinkHost – We Plant a Tree for Each New Client

A progressive, socially responsible web host

At ThinkHost, the terms “progressive” and “social responsibility” aren’t just warm and fuzzy buzzwords – we practice these concepts each and every day in our business dealings. We develop, support and promote sustainable solutions that seek to create a just, peaceful and environmentally harmonious world for our generation and those yet to come.

We strongly believe in the 10 key values of the Green Movement.

1. Grassroots democracy
2. Social justice and equal opportunity
3. Ecological wisdom
4. Non-violence
5. Decentralization
6. Community-based economics and economic justice
7. Feminism and gender equity
8. Respect for diversity
9. Personal and global responsibility
10. Future focus and sustainability
Carbon-neutral green web hosting

We’re on the front lines in the battle against global warming and environmental degradation, and we never compromise on our values. Most of our staff telecommute, so we aren’t contributing to global warming through trips to and from work. We use little in the way of paper, as data is stored electronically. And most of us use notebook computers and low wattage lighting, reducing electricity requirements. What electricity we do use, including the amount used by our servers, is 100% powered by renewable wind and solar energy.

Added to all that, we are now planting a tree for every new client!

Assisting the community

We never forget that our business is part of the wider world, and we like to give back whenever we can. So we donate a substantial amount each year in free hosting services to environmental groups, as well offering sponsored and discounted hosting for non-profits and progressive companies.
No fat cats or favoritism

Unlike many of our competitors, ThinkHost carries no debt. We have no shareholders, no other investors and no “fat-cat” members of management. That means we can make our own decisions, without pressure to compromise for profit. Our revenue is distributed amongst our staff, put back into improving our services and returned to the community through sponsorships and free web hosting.
Involving our clients

We want to hear from the most important people at ThinkHost—you. Not only do we take special notice of client requests for features, we actively encourage feedback through our surveys and our newsletter. Our clients are the ones who recommend the projects we sponsor and we share revenue through their involvement, via our affiliate, fundraiser and client incentive programs.
Beyond the business

Social responsibility extends beyond ThinkHost’s business into the day-to-day lives of our staff. Our team members are involved in human rights/refugee advocacy, peace initiatives, drug and alcohol counseling, environmental rehabilitation and sponsorship of families in third world countries. We are activists supporting and applauding other activists—we understand the world you’re in, because we’re in it too.

Would you like to join us in our dreams of making the world a more peaceful, greener place? We invite you to join the many other like-minded organizations we host.
